Port Jefferson AHEPA Chapter 319 Holds 8th Annual Fall Fishing Trip

PORT JEFFERSON, NY – The 8th annual fishing trip out of Port Jefferson, NY harbor was once again a success. On September 13, Port Jefferson AHEPA Chapter 319 hosted the 8th Annual Fall Fishing Trip on the Long Island Sound, providing bait, tackle, food, and refreshments for 60 guests, including fellow Ahepans, families, and friends.

This signature event always takes place in September aboard the Celtic Quest. Once again, the chapter’s Vice President, Paul Zaferiou, took the helm as the committee chairman to bring the trip to its successful fruition. The baton was passed to Paul from our late Brother Bobby Gemelas, who created the event in 2017, not as a fundraiser, but as a way for Ahepans to strengthen their bond together.

As in prior years, the chapter also sponsored youth and advisors from Saint Basil Academy free of charge to them. This year six youngsters and one advisor from St. Basil joined the chapter for the fun on the Long Island Sound.

The chapter thanked the sponsors from our Chapter as well as Constantine Cassis AHEPA Chapter No.170, Daughters of Penelope Pasithea Chapter No.141, and Maids of Athena Victory Chapter No. 76 for their support.

The boat’s crew reported that over 825 fish were caught on the six-hour cruise. A cash award was given to our contest winner, Sandy Kontaratos for catching the heaviest fish – a 3.8 pound Porgy.

Also in attendance were Past AHEPA District 6 Governors Petros Ragoussis, Demi Pamboukes, and Michael Capous, Supreme Board of Auditors Christopher Gallis, AHEPA District 6 Warden and President of Constantine Cassis AHEPA Chapter 170 Anastasi Stampolis, Daughters of Penelope (DOP) District 6 Marshall and Vice President of DOP Pasithea Chapter 141 Tatiana Stampolis, DOP District 6 Secretary Gina Skevofilax, and Hempstead Maids of Athena Victory Chapter 76 President Anastasia Vani.

AHEPA’s mission of promoting the ancient Hellenic ideals of Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, Family and Individual Excellence through community service and volunteerism is always their mission.
