Last month, we dug into Denver’s doughnut district, aka the strip along Arapahoe Road in the southern suburbs that’s home to five locally-owned doughnut shops. Now, one of those has expanded, and it’s got more than just sweet treats on the menu. Anna’s Donuts & Burritos debuted its second location at 2120 South Broadway on November 11, in a space that was formerly a LaMar’s Donuts. The business was founded by Anna and Jesus Arcos when they rebranded a former We Knead Donuts location at 5999 South University Boulevard in Greenwood Village a year and a half ago. From the start, that shop drew lines, especially on weekends. Fans flock there for the doughnuts, which include Anna’s version of a cronut: layered croissant dough made with rice flour, fried and glazed into a satisfyingly crunchy and sweet treat that nearly always sells out. Some even come freshly filled with your choice of options that span from Holland cream to raspberry, lemon, chocolate, sweet cream cheese and more. Doughnuts range in price from $1.68 to $3.89 each, with most falling around $2.50. But equally popular are the breakfast burritos ($9.63), which are hefty and filled with a winning ratio of fluffy eggs, tender potatoes, green chile that packs a nice kick, and a choice of meat (ham, pastor, steak, bacon, sausage or chorizo). You can also opt to get your burrito smothered and served with a side of potatoes for $12.99. And now you can get all of this goodness at a second location of Anna’s. While there are several other breakfast joints along this part of Broadway, including other spots for breakfast burritos, Anna’s combo of sweet and savory options, plus the high quality of both, should appeal to a broad crowd.
