Popular pub 'devastated' after customer leaves negative review

A landlady has hit out at the negative review left by a customer who she says has never visited her pub. Diane Broomfield-Tonge, 55, runs the White Horse pub in Disley along with her husband, Geof Broomfield. The pair took over the establishment 18 months ago. Diane says that after months of hard work, they have been able to build a positive reputation among locals which has been reflected in the hundreds of positive reviews left on TripAdvisor. However, Diane says that she was left devastated after she came across a negative review which criticised the pub's prices. The comment, which has since been removed by Diane, read: "The cheapest is £10.50. The pie £20. Stupid prices." Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE Speaking to the M.E.N, Diane said: "We've not had a bad review since the beginning of January this year. "All of a sudden this one came through, there's no rhyme or reason for it. "I don't think they've actually visited the premises. We're not sure because it doesn't really say that they've eaten here, it just mentions our prices. "When I looked a little deeper on who sent it, all their other reviews are pretty grim. "They've only given one star to another pub in the same village as well and they mentioned the prices there." Speaking about the impact it’s had on herself and staff, she said: "The hospitality industry is suffering at the moment and people doing that doesn't really help. "We make everything from scratch so it’s a bit sad when someone thinks we're overcharging. It's proper homemade food, it's not brought in. "We've got a lovely team here at the White Horse, when someone does something like that it affects morale a little bit. "A lot of love and attention goes into that food." Diane says that she and her husband Geof have been in the hospitality industry for 'a very long time'. She praised Disley's community spirit after punters flooded her comment section with support when she posted about the upsetting review. "When we first opened people came to have a nosey just to see who we were." She explained. "We've been in the business for a very long time and wherever we've been, we've brought a loyal customer base because they know the food is good and the service is good. "Disley has an incredible community spirit, I've never seen anything like it. We've been here 18 months and turned the place around. "It's been hard, but we got there."
