Pop singer Lola Young collapsed mid-song at a music festival in New York City on Saturday night and had to be carried off the stage.
The singer gave fans a fright after the 24-year-old singer cancelled a show the night before “due to a sensitive matter,” according to Billboard.com.
In videos posted on social media, the English singer can be seen swaying before dropping her microphone and falling backwards while singing at the All Things Go Festival at the Forest Hills Stadium.
After the performance, Young reassured fans with a post on Instagram: “Hi, for anyone who saw my set at All Things Go today, I am doing ok now … Thank you all for your support, Lola.”
Billboard provided more details about Saturday night’s performance: “[Young] gave a strong vocal performance but appeared flushed and emotional.”
The singer “powered through” four songs before falling during the fifth. She stopped to talk with her keyboardist before collapsing, the outlet reported.
She was down for about “30-45 seconds” before being carried off stage, Billboard reported.
The crowd was “in shock and quiet” before clapping for her as she was helped offstage.
Earlier in the set, Young spoke about how she “had a tricky couple of days,” People reported.
Nick Shymansky, the singer’s manager, announced the cancellation of Friday’s show on Instagram:
“Lola is very open about her mental health and there are very occasionally days where myself and my team have to take protective measures to keep her safe,” he wrote. “She is an incredible person and always takes her fans, career and performances seriously. I can only send huge apologies for the inconvenience caused.”
Young had addressed her decision to perform on Saturday before she collapsed:
“Today I woke up and I made the decision to come here,” she told the crowd, per Billboard. “I wanted to be, I wanted to perform, and I didn’t want to wallow in my sadness. Sometimes life can throw you lemons and you just gotta (expletive) make lemonade.
“I really appreciate everyone who’s here tonight.”
