Popular homeware store to open another shop in Greater Manchester town

A well-known fashion and homeware retailer is set to open another Greater Manchester store – its fourth in the region. The new store will be located in Altrincham town centre. Oliver Bonas, which has more than 90 stores across the country, will take one of the three new units being created in the town’s former Poundland site on George Street, which is part of the ongoing Stamford Quarter redevelopment. First founded in 1993, the independent department store sells a ‘curated mix’ of clothing, as well as jewellery accessories, furniture, beauty products and homeware. The new Oliver Bonas site will occupy one of the three retail units being created from the 7,000 sq ft space. As the anchor of the new retail unit it will take up 3,100 sq ft. The plans form part of the major regeneration of The Stamford Quarter, which includes the creation of Foundation, a workspace and leisure destination, complete with a 375sqm living biophilic wall on the building’s external facade which is also now home to leading independent and national brands Nell’s pizza, Yum Cha, Lane 7 and Starbucks. In 2024 Stamford Quarter also saw retail openings including Mountain Warehouse and the first concept store for the number one online retailer Look Fantastic. Chris Houghton, Retail & Leisure Manager at Bruntwood, said: “The arrival of Oliver Bonas in the Stamford Quarter reflects the strength and ambition of our retail and leisure offer, while complementing the vibrant mix of independents and national names already here. “We’re confident Oliver Bonas will be a real draw for both local shoppers and visitors from further afield, and we’re delighted to be bringing such a popular lifestyle store to Altrincham.” A spokesperson for Trafford Council, added: “Trafford Council is committed to working with partners to improve and regenerate all town centres in the borough. The arrival of Oliver Bonas is a big boost for Altrincham.” For those living in Trafford and the surrounding area, it will be the nearest location for the retailer outside of the city centre – where there is a store on St Mary’s Gate and a small unit within Manchester Piccadilly Station. Outside the city centre, the nearest store is in Didsbury Village, which opened earlier this year in the former Gusto site on Wilmslow Road. Beyond Greater Manchester, the nearest stores are in Liverpool and Chester. Whilst no opening date or further details have been disclosed by Oliver Bonas about what will be available at the new Altrincham store, it is expected it will follow suit of other stores with recent openings featuring dedicated areas for seasonal collections and more spacious fitting rooms.
