Pop star reveals Katie Price saved her after being ‘days from death’

The pop star, 46, is celebrating four years sober after sharing that her ‘spiralling’ relationship with alcohol put her in the hospital. She said that at the height of her addiction, she would drink ‘two bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka’ every day, a habit that almost cost her her life. When tackling her alcoholism, the Just a Little hitmaker was supported by former glamour model Price, 47, who staged an intervention for the singer alongside other friends. ‘There were many times when I wanted to stop drinking, but I couldn’t, and then I didn’t want to tell anybody I couldn’t because I’d already told them I was stopping,’ she told the Daily Mail. ‘It was frustrating thinking, “why can’t I stop? I can’t tell anybody because no one’s going to have the same problem.”‘ The Liberty X star said that her struggles with alcohol addiction came to a head in 2021 (Picture: Danny Martindale/Getty Images) She checked into The Priory rehab centre in the same year and is celebrating four years sober (Picture: Alan Chapman/Dave Benett/WireImage) She said that during a night out with the Mucky Mansion star and other friends, she realised that booze was not ‘giving her any joy.’ ‘And then I just thought, “God, if they can do it, if she can do it, if they could be sober, what did they do?”‘ She continued. ‘And then as soon as I accepted I needed help, help was always there.’ She checked into The Priory rehab centre in 2021, and credits Price for ‘saving her life.’ The singer told The Sun at the time: ‘I texted Katie while I was in The Priory, “You saved my life.” Because The Priory did save my life. ‘What I was doing was a suicide mission. I never actually thought, “I want to kill myself”, but ultimately I was killing myself. ‘I was crying out for help when I couldn’t actually ask for help. But when you’re an addict, it feels like there’s no way out.’ It was during a night out with Price that Heaton realised alcohol ‘did not bring her joy’ (Picture: Dave Hogan/Getty Images) Price has spoken out several times about her issues with addiction and checking into rehab (Picture: Nordin Catic/Getty Images for The Cambridge Union) Price has spoken candidly about her own struggles with addiction and stints in rehab, telling The Sun last year: ‘In our industry, if I don’t turn up for work nobody can replace me. You sort of just get on with it and you don’t deal with what’s happened. ‘It got to a point where I had a major breakdown, ended up in The Priory twice, five weeks at a time, and then I self-medicated on coke.’ She added: ‘I’ve been through so much and I’ve come out the other end.’ On ‘self-medicating’ with drugs, the reality TV star said during an appearance on Loose Women in 2019: ‘I think that’s why my family and friends were really hurt and didn’t know what to do because I’ve never been in … for all those years in this industry .. you can choose that path if you want or you don’t and I didn’t, I purely did it to self medicate….but I went to the doctors and said this isn’t me, and I told them the truth. ‘I wasn’t really drinking, just self-medicating on drugs basically. It’s disgusting, but it was my way of dealing with it. That’s when I was like: no, I know I need help, this is not me. At least I can hold my hands up, and I’m so glad I did because if I didn’t speak out, I would probably still be in that rut now.’ Need help? The NHS recommends Drinkline, the national alcohol helpline. If you're worried about your own or someone else's drinking, there is a free helpline you can call in complete confidence. Call 0300 123 1110 (weekdays 9am to 8pm, weekends 11am to 4pm). Or you can use Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), a free self-help group with a 12-step programme. Got a story?
