Pollution Control Board’s golden jubilee event in Mandya on Oct 28

Deputy Commissioner Kumar on Wednesday said that the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), which marks its 50th year of establishment, will celebrate its golden jubilee in Mandya on October 28.

Presiding over a preparatory meeting in Mandya, Dr. Kumar said the main event will be held on the Mandya University premises. Various committees, including welcome, stage, and food committees, have been constituted to ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations.

He directed officials to carry out their duties without any lapses.

The Deputy Commissioner said special programmes involving students and the public will be organised to raise awareness about curbing different forms of pollution such as electronic waste, plastic waste, solid waste, and water pollution. The golden jubilee will also be observed at both district and taluk levels for promoting environmental awareness among students.

Each taluk has been allocated a grant of ₹2 lakh for conducting the programmes.

As part of the pre-event activities, competitions including essay writing, debate, extempore speech, painting, and quiz contests will be held on topics such as environmental cleanliness and health, green for the future, circular economy, and sustainable development. Winners will receive prizes, he said.

Dr. Kumar told the officials to ensure active participation from NSS, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and college students, stating that environmental protection should be treated as an integral part of education.

Officials from various departments attended the meeting.
