About 10 days after first sharing on social media that their “lounge brewery” was in danger of shutting down, Policy Kings is “officially closed,” according to a Friday post on Instagram.
“Sad news today, after fighting, arguing, proposals, we still were not able to work it out with the landlord,” the post read. “PK is officially closed.”
On Sept. 10, the owners of Policy Kings were served with an eviction notice that said they had three days to pay $49,304.67 in unpaid rent and other fees or vacate the premises, according to court documents.
Two weeks later, HMB Partners, Policy Kings’ landlord, filed a complaint in 3rd District Court that alleged the bar was guilty of unlawful detainer for not complying with the eviction notice, documents showed.
The complaint also reiterated that Policy Kings still owed $49,304.67 to its landlord.
An attorney for the landlord is currently out of town and said he was unable to comment for this story. An attorney who said he’d once provided legal consultation to the owners of Policy Kings also said he was unable to comment.
In their Instagram post on Friday, the owners of Policy Kings, who started their business in Cedar City, said, “When we started this journey back in 2018, we knew it was a gamble we were taking. When we made the choice to relocate up to Salt Lake, we also knew it was a gamble. That is the life of every small-business owner.”
“Thanks to the many who came and loved what we had for the time we were here,” the post continued.
Policy Kings said in the post that they planned to fight their landlord in court, “but we can’t stay open while we do that.”
