Police respond to robberies in West Bay and George Town

Police were called to separate robberies on 24 Oct., the first occurring in the morning at Smith’s Barcadere in George Town and the second at a barber shop in West Bay. Just after 5:10pm, a masked man entered the barber shop near Mount Pleasant Road and Batabano Road brandishing a machete. The man reportedly left with a bag containing personal items and cash from a person at the location. He fled to the rear of the store, meeting another masked man outside. Both men left the location in a light-coloured Honda Fit. It was the second reported robbery that day. Shortly after 6:15am, police officers were called to Smith’s Barcadere in George Town after reports that a man had been approached by another man who brandished a knife and demanded his personal property. The man reportedly took his vehicle keys before taking cash, jewellery and other personal items from his vehicle and fleeing on foot. The suspect is described as being of light complexion and of slim build, about 5’9” in height, with low cut hair and a beard. He was wearing a light-coloured t-shirt, black shorts and was carrying a backpack. No one was injured during the incidents. The matters are currently under investigation by George Town CID, and anyone with information, or who was in the area when the respective robberies were happening, is asked to contact 949-4222. Anonymous tips for these or any incidents can be provided directly to the RCIPS via the Confidential Tip Line at 949 7777, or via the RCIPS website.
