The Ghana Police Service says it has intensified its crackdown on human trafficking networks, rescuing 60 victims in just two weeks of operations this month.
Addressing the media at the CID Headquarters in Accra, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Donkor, revealed that traffickers continue to exploit unsuspecting victims with promises of lucrative jobs abroad, only to subject them to abuse and exploitation.
According to her, recent investigations show that traffickers now use new tactics — transiting victims through several countries before their final destinations in an attempt to avoid detection.
Rescues in Ghana and Abroad
Between 5th and 19th September 2025, the Police successfully rescued 41 foreign nationals trafficked into Ghana and 19 Ghanaian nationals who were being exploited abroad. All the rescued individuals have since been handed over to the relevant authorities for reintegration and support.
COP Donkor cautioned the public against falling prey to dubious recruitment offers, stressing that “no legitimate recruitment agency will require people to travel by road through multiple countries as part of an employment process.” She urged individuals to verify the authenticity of overseas job opportunities before committing themselves.
Warning to Recruiters and Traffickers
The CID reminded the public that it is a criminal offence to lure or recruit people under false pretences. Anyone found culpable will face prosecution. Victims of trafficking are encouraged to promptly report to the nearest police station for assistance.
“This fight requires collective effort,” COP Donkor added. “Families, communities, and survivors must share their experiences to prevent others from falling victim.”
Police Assures Public Safety
The press briefing also highlighted other key cases under investigation, including the Kasoa murders, the Spintex robbery, and the recovery of stolen vehicles.
On behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, COP Donkor commended officers for their professionalism and urged the public to continue supporting the Service with timely and credible information.
