Police investigating reports of possible street takeover in Portland

Authorities believe high schoolers from multiple area towns are planning a street takeover in Portland on Halloween night. The “large planned gathering” was believed to be taking place in an industrial park near the Arrigoni Bridge, according to Connecticut State Police and the Portland Police Department. Police said the bridge would allow for easy access in and out of town. The takeover was believed to be planned by students from a number of schools, including Haddam-Killingworth High School, Coginchaug Regional High School, Vinal Technical High School and others, police said. “These incidents have the potential to be extremely dangerous, disrupt travel on our roadways, are illegal, and will not be tolerated in our communities,” state police wrote in a post made to Facebook. “We encourage parents and any members of our community to discuss this matter with their children to ensure they are not involved or associated with this type of activity.” “This activity is not only illegal but also dangerous and will be taken seriously up to and including the arrest of parties involved and the towing of vehicles,” Portland police said in a statement. Authorities from both agencies collaborating with one another and are asking anyone with information to contact the Portland Police Department at 860-342-6780.
