OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – Zeeland police identified Mary Boschma, 81, of Zeeland Township, as the pedestrian who was struck by a pickup truck and killed on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Main Avenue, just east of Maple Street, in Zeeland. She was crossing the road when she was struck by the driver’s side mirror of the westbound pickup truck, police said. Rescuers attempted life-saving efforts before Boschma was taken to Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital. She was later transferred to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital where she died from her injuries. Police said conditions were dark and rainy when the crash occurred. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation but police said the truck appeared to have the right of way.
