Police fear missing Perth man dead as unit scoured for clues

WA Police’s Homicide Squad has taken over a major investigation into the whereabouts of a missing Perth man, which has seen officers spend almost a week searching a property in one of the city’s riverside suburbs.

A home contained in a block of units on Money Road in Attadale has been the site of extensive police operations since Thursday.

After days of questions from the media and growing curiosity within the community, WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said the forensic search was related to missing 33-year-old Jayden Selfe.

Commissioner Blanch said what they had uncovered at the unit in Attadale, along with other information, had led them to deem Mr Selfe’s disappearance as suspicious.

“Understandably, the public have been asking lots of questions about our presence in Attadale,” he told ABC Radio Perth.

“As a result of forensic analysis in that unit … we have concerns for his welfare, which means we found something that would suggest that he was there.

“Major Crime and Homicide Squad are now investigating, which will give you an indication about our grave concerns.

The police commissioner said while the investigation was still in its early stages, they did think Mr Selfe had been harmed at the Attadale unit.

“Certainly that’s the way the investigation is leading,” he said.

“We did not tell the public what we were looking for because, quite frankly, we had information that was not verified or validated and police were in fact spending time at that address to verify and validate.”

Commissioner Blanch said it was understood Mr Selfe had last been in contact with people known to him in early to mid-May this year.

He is asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
