The police are conducting thorough investigation of an unnatural death registered wherein a missing girl was found dead on Friday in a canal near Gogi village of Shahapur taluk. According to Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, who spoke on Sunday, Sharanappa Hadpad, a native of Kodekal village, lodged a complaint at Kodekal Police Station on October 21, stating that his 17-year-old daughter, Kumari Soujanya, went missing from his house and that he suspected that his daughter might have been kidnapped. During investigation of the case, an unknown girl’s body was found in a canal near Gogi village. The police, who rushed to the spot, circulated photos of the dead girl on social media to establish her identity and shifted the body to the mortuary of the Yadgir Institute of Medical Science in Yadgir. Upon seeing the photo on WhatsApp, Sharanappa Hadpad identified his daughter and lodged another complaint expressing his suspicion over her death. After registering the case, the police launched an investigation. As per preliminary investigation, the call detail records of the cell phone used by the girl showed that she had been talking with Pandya alias Prajwal Gangavathi and shared chat messages with him. This was also acknowledged by their friends during police inquiry. The police are now awaiting an FSL report based on material objects found on the body.
