Pokémon Legends: Z-A director: Luminose is supposed to be scary like France

There is now a possible reason that the world in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is completely hideous. Ever since Z-A landed on the Nintendo Switch 2, the reviews have been mixed. While the new battle system has excited long-time fans, the low quality of the environment has enraged critics who feel Game Freak is taking advantage of loyal players. Now, Z-A's Director Haruka Tochigi has explained why the city is so desolate and depressing. Pokémon Legends: Z-A director apparently wanted the game to be miserable In an interview with Dengeki Nintendo magazine, Tochigi explained that Lumiose City is supposed to resemble France, which he apparently doesn't have a very high regard for. Tochigi stated that X and Y didn't accurately reflect how horrifying it is to live in France, which he wanted to correct with Z-A. Image Credit: Game Freak He didn't go into specifics, but gamers can see the resemblance in some ways. Right when you arrive in the city, someone steals your luggage. This has resonated with Paris residents and visitors alike, who have admitted to getting robbed in the city themselves. Some responses: Well, I’ve run through Lumiose and have been stabbed or harassed once. Bro really said, imma show you what it’s like to get jumped, robbed, and join a gang the moment you get to France. We got robbed the first two minutes being there, so he definitely portrayed it well. Others pointed out the anti-homeless benches and cold NPCs you encounter as other indicators of the city reflecting their experience in France. It still doesn't explain why the map is so cheap and empty, in my opinion. It also doesn't explain why the details are just decals on the side of buildings. It should be noted that it's difficult to track down this interview so take it with a grain of salt. While it sounds believable, I think we believe it because it explains to coping fanboys why the city is so fucking ugly and depressing. It can't possibly be that the game just cost $13 million and was meant to rip them off.
