Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials for a record 5.9 million tax returns filed in FY2025. He said that 900,000 new taxpayers joining the system show strong public trust in government policies. The PM thanked citizens for fulfilling their responsibility and noted that tax reforms are delivering positive results. Sharif emphasized that merit-based recognition in FBR and discouraging poor performance has strengthened the culture of efficiency. He highlighted that these measures are creating accountability and motivating officials to improve performance across all departments. He said that filing tax returns has been made simpler and more convenient for taxpayers. Ports now have automated clearance systems, reducing corruption and improving operational efficiency. Additionally, sales tax collection has improved through expanded point-of-sale systems. He revealed that tax revenue increased by 9 billion rupees compared to last year. The PM said these numbers reflect the success of FBR reforms. He added that the government remains committed to eliminating corruption and reducing the informal economy. Officials are working tirelessly to maintain transparency and improve performance. Individual tax payments rose from 60 billion to 69 billion rupees, a 15% increase, reflecting stronger compliance and collection efficiency.
