Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left on an official visit to Azerbaijan on Friday to further deepen cooperation in diverse sectors including trade and investment. He is visiting the country on the invitation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and will also participate in the events marking the Fifth Anniversary of Victory Day, being commemorated in Baku, said the Foreign Office (FO) in a press release today. During the visit, PM Shehbaz will attend the official Victory Day celebrations and hold a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. The two sides will review the entire gamut of bilateral relations and identifying new avenues to further deepen cooperation in diverse sectors including trade and investment, energy, defence, education, and regional connectivity. “Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy long-standing fraternal relations, rooted in shared faith, history, culture, and mutual trust,” the FO said. It added that the two countries also maintain close cooperation in regional and international fora, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Economic Cooperation Organization and the United Nations. “The visit by the Prime Minister will reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and to further advance the strategic partnership between the two brotherly nations.”
