Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development works worth Rs 34,200 crore at a public event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.Among the key announcements were initiatives in the maritime sector worth over Rs 7,800 crore, including the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock, a new container terminal at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata, a multi-cargo facility at Tuna Tekra, and coastal protection works in Chennai and Car Nicobar. He also laid foundations for projects at Paradip and Kamarajar ports, along with ship repair hubs in Patna and Varanasi.“Today, India is moving forward with the spirit of ‘Vishwabandhu’. We have no major enemy in the world. Our biggest enemy is our dependence on other countries. This is our biggest enemy, and together we must defeat this enemy of India, the enemy of dependence. We must always reiterate this. The greater the foreign dependence, the greater the country’s failure,” he said while addressing the gathering at the inauguration event. In Gujarat, the Prime Minister inaugurated projects valued at more than Rs 26,000 crore, such as the HPLNG Regasification Terminal at Chhara Port, new renewable energy projects including a 600 MW green initiative and the complete solarisation of Dhordo village, as well as expansions of major hospitals in Bhavnagar and Jamnagar. He also launched highway works and laid foundations for additional LNG infrastructure and urban transport projects. “For global peace, stability, and prosperity, the country with the world’s largest population must become Atmanirbhar. If we remain dependent on others, our self-respect will be hurt. We cannot leave the future of 1.4 billion countrymen to others. We cannot leave the resolution for the country’s development to the dependence of others. We cannot put the future of future generations at stake… There is only one medicine for a hundred sorrows, and that is a self-reliant India” PM Modi added in his speech.Live Events Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister held a roadshow that began at the airport and covered a distance of one kilometre before ending at Gandhi Maidan, the venue of his address. The BJP leader waved to large crowds gathered on both sides of the road, as people greeted him with flowers.
