Plymouth-Canton schools end free meals amid stalled state budget process

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Starting Oct. 1, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools will stop providing free meals to students.
In a letter sent to families on Friday, Sept. 19, the district explained the decision is due to uncertainty around school funding, which impacts how student meals are provided.
Beginning Oct. 1, East and West Middle Schools, along with Canton, Plymouth, and Salem High Schools, will return to their original meal eligibility process and no longer offer free meals to all students.
Student meals will be charged based on each family’s approved eligibility status: free, reduced-price, or full price.
Families seeking free or reduced-price meals under federal funding must complete a new Education and Nutrition Benefits Form, formerly known as the Free & Reduced application, through ParentConnection via MiStar as soon as possible.
