A pair of Coldstream athletes have earned weekly honours in their respective leagues and sports. Aimee Skinner from the UBC Thunderbirds of Vancouver is the BioSteel Canada West (CW) women’s volleyball Player of the Week. Skinner has quickly become a key piece of UBC’s attack as the third-year transfer put up a whopping 38 combined kills and five aces in a weekend split on the road against the defending national champions Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg. She had 20 kills, a .227 hitting percentage, one service ace, 12 digs, and recorded 21.5 points in a 3-1 UBC victory. In the rematch, Skinner had 18 kills, four service aces, 19 digs and 23 points in a 3-2 UBC loss. Skinner’s 31 digs on the weekend led the T-Birds. She leads the conference with 56 kills while also topping the CW with 44 digs. UBC leads the CW with a 3-1 record. Goalie Austin Seibel of the Revelstoke Grizzlies was named to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s Team of the Week after two scintillating performances over the weekend. Seibel began the weekend with a 34-save performance against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats in a 4-1 win. He then earned his first shutout with a 34-save performance against the Fernie Ghostriders on Oct. 25. Seibel made 16 saves in the third period. His stat line over two games: 0.50 goals against average (GAA) and a stellar .986 save percentage. He has now won four starts in a row. The Grizzlies sit third in the Bill Ohlhausen Division at 7-3-0-1. Seibel has appeared in eight of the Bears’ 11 games.
