Adamu Aliyu, a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, surrendered to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja on September 15, 2025, days after Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court declared him wanted for ignoring invitations to address fraud allegations, according to Premium Times.
Aliyu, representing Jos North-North, is accused of defrauding businessman Mohammed Jidda in a scheme involving a fake N850 million Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) contract at the University of Jos.
Jidda’s petition claims Aliyu signed a Memorandum of Understanding requiring a N73.6 million payment, including N52 million as a facilitation fee to Imanal Concept Ltd, for the alleged contract.
Aliyu reportedly provided a forged contract award letter for a N500 million indoor sports hall project, prompting Jidda to transfer the funds into two bank accounts linked to the lawmaker.Investigations revealed N47.8 million was paid into Aliyu’s personal account, N22.4 million into Imanal Concept Ltd’s Zenith Bank account, and N3.2 million directly to Aliyu.
The University of Jos denied issuing the contract, confirming the letter as a forgery in a written statement to the ICPC.Despite multiple invitations, including messages sent via the Clerk of the Plateau Assembly and Aliyu’s WhatsApp, he failed to appear until the wanted declaration.
The ICPC also reported credible intelligence suggesting Aliyu planned to flee Nigeria to evade prosecution. He is now being questioned at the ICPC headquarters.
