The outdoor-recreating public is invited to a pair of work sessions in October and November as Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks develops its plans for a multi-use trail system in Fish Creek State Park.
The Fish Creek Collaborative, a citizen advisory group formed by the agency, will meet Thursday, Oct. 30 and Thursday, Nov. 6 at the local FWP office in Missoula.
FWP’s 2010 acquisition of the former Plum Creek timber lands from the Nature Conservancy made Fish Creek the state’s largest park by area, spanning 5,600 acres south of Alberton Gorge. It’s part of a 45,000-acre complex of state lands bordering the Lolo National Forest west of Missoula.
The upcoming work sessions are part of a process begun in 2022 to develop a comprehensive management plan for the sprawling state park.
The agency is working to plan a trail system catering to both motorized trail users and hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, trail runners, wildlife watchers and others.
Members of the public can attend the all-day work sessions at the FWP Region 2 office, 3201 Spurgin Rd., and submit comments either in person or online. Links to the meetings, start times and more information will be posted closer to the meeting dates at fwp.mt.gov/stateparks/fish-creek.
