Pizza plant employee dies after being crushed by robotic machine

WEST MILWAUKEE (WISN) – An investigation is underway after an employee at a Wisconsin pizza plant was fatally crushed by a robotic machine.
The incident happened around 6 a.m. last Wednesday at the Palermo’s Pizza facility in West Milwaukee.
Officers with the West Milwaukee Police Department responded to the facility after reports of an industrial accident. First responders attempted life-saving measures on the employee, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified by the Milwaukee County medical examiner as 45-year-old Robert Cherone.
Police say the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was contacted for investigation.
A spokesperson for Palermo’s Pizza called the incident a “tragic accident” and said it is being fully investigated.
“Palermo’s will be supporting the employee’s family and next of kin. We will also be offering counseling and support services to the Palermo’s team during this difficult time,” the spokesperson said.
