DUBLIN — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Skylar Thompson was jumped and robbed in Dublin on Friday night, according to Tom Pelissero.
Steelers team spokesman Burt Lauten released a statement on the incident.
“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident,” Lauten said.
The Irish Times added some context to the report. Thompson was in the area near the Temple Bar in center of Dublin City. It happened at 2:30 a.m., according to the report, which states that Thompson was jumped by a ‘group of males.’
There was no need for Thompson to have medical assistance and he did not go to the hospital. During the attack, Thompson’s phone was stolen. The incident is now being investigation.
“We are aware of the incident involving Skylar Thompson in Ireland and are relieved to know he is okay,” the NFLPA said in a press release. “The NFLPA is actively gathering more information and working to understand the full circumstances surrounding what took place. As always, our priority is the health and safety of our player members – especially as we continue to work on player protections and well-being while playing international games – and we will continue to support Skylar in any way 55 he needs.”
Steelers players were banned from going out in Dublin on Saturday as a result of that. Thompson has yet to make a formal complaint with police.
