Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington will play against the Los Angeles Chargers despite popping up early in the week with a foot injury. Washington was a full participant on Thursday and Friday in what is a good sign for the tight end’s game health this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. Washington was not mentioned by head coach Mike Tomlin as part of the injuries coming out of the team’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, but regardless, the injury is something to watch. They have utilized Washington in their heavy personnel packages, and his inclusion has consistently opened up the rushing attack for the Steelers. Pittsburgh’s sixth offensive line package has been anchored by Washington and guard Spencer Anderson. With Washington a bit banged up, the Steelers could see a heavier dose of Connor Heyward in those packages, who has been used more as a fullback and H-back type than a true tight end this season. Washington was utilized as a critical piece of the team’s passing offense a week ago, hauling in four grabs for 43 yards on six targets from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has given him public votes of confidence multiple times. This season, Washington has 13 grabs for 127 yards, showcasing his bigger role in the passing game while also not illustrating just how important Washington has become to the group’s ground attack as a blocker in the jumbo package.
