Merritt Island (Fla.) 2027 quarterback Kevin Verpaele has committed to Pittsburgh. He has been up to campus for camp and for the Boston College game this fall and becomes commit No. 4 for head coach Pat Narduzzi and his staff in the 2027 recruiting class. “Pitt was right for me because they were the only Power Four (school) who really showed interested in me,” Verpaele said. “Kade Bell spent time to develop me when I was at his camp. Took me to the board, gave me extra reps, just from the jump he believed in me. Coach Bell and Coach Narduzzi had a lot of faith in me.” The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Verpaele was offered by Pitt back in June. “It just felt like home too,” he said. “I like the campus. I like how it’s all in a city. I like how it’s a big city environment. I like how they shared facilities with the Steelers. They have the same chef as the Steelers. A lot about it was unique and seemed like a one of one.” Verpaele is having a strong junior season. He’s completed nearly 63 percent of his passes for 1,909 yards and 19 touchdowns to five interceptions. He has added 279 yards rushing and two more scores. Verpaele also pointed to the consistency of the Pitt program. “I like Coach Narduzzi,” Verpaele said. “I think he’s all about the players. He develops players to go to the NFL. I know they’ll push me and coach me hard and train me to be the best I can be.” Rivals ranks Verpaele as the No. 44 quarterback in the junior class. He adds to a class previously ranked No. 16 at this point in the cycle. “Kevin is such a unique talent with the ability to make elite plays with his arm but what’s most impressive is his ability to extend plays and throw accurately outside of the pocket,” his trainer Baylin Trujillo said. “He’s born into an athletic family with both his dad and uncle (who is the Defensive Coordinator at Army) both playing in the secondary at USF. He loves to compete and he’s very confident in who he is as a quarterback and those are the type of kids I love to develop! “He’s got it!”
