PIMS’ college students protest demanding compliance with ICC report on sexual harassment

A section of students belonging to the College of Health Sciences under the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) at Kalapet staged a protest on the campus on Thursday (November 6, 2025) demanding full institutional compliance with an inquiry report that recommended action against two lab technicians accused of sexual harassment. The students said the Internal Complaints Committee of the institution had recommended termination of one of the accused and the suspension, for a specific period and possible transfer of the other person to any other sub centre of PIMS, after finding the complaints to be genuine. While students had called off their protest on Wednesday (November 5, 2025) after apparently reaching an agreement with management, they returned to protest on Thursday alleging that college authorities had failed to fully comply with the recommendations of ICC. The students gathered in front of the College and raised slogans demanding justice to the victims, who faced abuse at the A spokesman for PIMS said the students, who probably got agitated when one of the accused returned to the institution after serving suspension, had been given an assurance that any further action in this matter could be considered once the PIMS Director, who is currently out of town, returned early next week. Meanwhile, the police, who reached the premises, also held talks with representatives of the institution and the students. Based on a complaint from the students, the police have initiated an inquiry.
