Chris Scott addresses Bailey controversy

AFL: “It went to another level when he was covertly recorded”, Chris Scott addresses Bailey Smith’s confrontation with the media.

Collingwood coach Craig McRae refused to “take away hope” of a grand final return for Norm Smith Medallist Bobby Hill despite ruling him out of the preliminary final.
Hill, 25, has played one game in almost three months and trained sporadically due to personal reasons.
But he has been back in the fold for the best part of four weeks and has trained strongly during that period.
McRae broke the news to Hill ahead of Thursday’s main session but offered the small forward a potential lifeline should the Magpies defeat Brisbane on Saturday
“I’d like to think so (able to pick Hill for a grand final), I don’t want to take away hope for the young lad,” he said.

“He’s progressing towards that, I mentioned that to him, ‘Please keep training well, keep turning up, keep being present, keep getting better every day’.
“There may be a world where that could be true.”
McRae said the decision to leave Hill out was “somewhat” run by the leadership group.
“We’re having ongoing conversations all the time about our list and where we fit and Bobby is a part of those conversations, there’s a lot of layers to it,” he said.”

The accumulation of “a lot of little things” cost Hill a recall.
McRae said the Magpies had to take into account selection integrity, his fitness and what the team tactically needed.
“It was a conversation that was hard for him to hear, but it’s the reality of where we’re at right now with his preparation,” he said.

Bobby Hill ruled out of prelim at Collingwood training

Tyler Lewis gives the run down on the Collingwood players hitting the track…

“Credit to him, he trained really, really well and that shows how far he’s come in the last period – he’s working hard to get back, this is not permanent, that’s what I said to him.
“There’s a selection integrity part always when we go to match committee; what’s the integrity of form and other parts of it.
“Then there’s the high performance nature of it, how much work have you done? And then there’s the tactical part where (we ask) what does the team need right now?”
Brody Mihocek went through the warm-up and first sprint drill a little sore after his foot was stepped on against the Crows but got better as the first hour progressed.

McRae said Mihocek pieced together a strong training block and would face the Lions on Saturday.
“Brody will play, it’s hard to keep Brody out of the team and even the training track,” he said.
“He’s out there training really well this week and he’s fit and available.”
