PICS: House of Guinness stars channel their characters at stylish Dublin premiere

We’re mere days away from the House of Guinness dropping on Netflix, and to say we’re excited would be quite the understatement!

The cast of the show attended a special screening at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin on Thursday, with many of the leading ladies giving a nod to their characters through their fashion choices.

Leading the style was Niamh McCormack, who looked incredible in a satin two-piece comprised of a fitted midi skirt and crop top.

Niamh’s look for the night was by Shushu Tong, with her telling EVOKE: ‘He’s an amazing designer, we wanted a little ode to the time period with a little chemise moment on the top, it’s navy and beautiful.’

Chatting about playing her role of Ellen Cochrane on the red carpet, Niamh said she enjoyed finding the balance of strength and vulnerability on screen in House of Guinness.

Niamh said: ‘My character carries herself in a very masculine light to be taken seriously in a male-dominated field, and she really, really had to work twice as hard as any other man out there.

‘And that was hard, but also allowing her to have those moments of vulnerability, and I think there’s so much strength in that.’

Actress Danielle, who has had quite the week after also celebrating the upcoming launch of her RTÉ show The Walsh Sisters, was also making a style statement at the premiere.

She wore a pinstriped set with a statement faux fur detailing and gave full credit to her stylist for pulling together the look.

‘He really let me talk about the character [Lady Olivia Hedges],’ Danielle told EVOKE, adding: ‘I wanted to kind of embody her tonight, so we went a little bit extra and also he’s aware that this is my hometown and I really want to turn it out for the people of Dublin.’

Dervla Kirwan, who portrays Aunt Agnes Guinness in the Netflix show, was also looking sharp on the night in a black suit with satin lapels.

She spoke with EVOKE about her costumes in the series and said she’s ‘hugely indebted’ to the team who help pull together the looks on set.

Dervla said: ‘Edward, our fantastic costume designer, and Connie, our magnificent makeup artist, they’re for the actor as important really as the script because it’s a hugely collaborative experience.

‘You go to someone like Cosprops in London and they know immediately how to shorthand to the audience who your character is, what their status is, how much money they have, because all the costumes, these real clothes are handmade, hand-stitched, and that’s something that we forget in an era of fast fashion skill it takes to make these clothes. I’m indebted hugely to these people.’

Despite not being the most comfortable of costumes to wear, Dervla said this discomfort can help with getting into character, explaining: ‘They’re incredibly heavy, they add to your discomfort, and they can add to it a genuine frustration because as women you can’t breathe, you can’t move, you’re constricted.

‘So in a way, they tell a story of keeping women put and shackled and it is a marvelous metaphor. They do an awful lot of work for you.’
