Photos: King and Queen of Spain begin Luxor tour at Hatshepsut Temple

On Thursday evening, Governor of Luxor, Eng. Abdel Mottaleb Amara, and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, welcomed King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia.
This visit is the first by a Spanish monarch since Felipe VI ascended to the throne in 2014. The Governor of Luxor expressed his delight, calling it a historic event that reinforces Luxor’s position as the world’s capital of cultural tourism.
During their tour of several archaeological sites and historical landmarks in Luxor, the King and Queen visited the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut to learn about the greatness of ancient Egyptian civilization and its unique tourist features. They also took commemorative photos inside the temple.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were impressed by the magnificent architecture and the heroic stories of the pharaohs’ kings and queens depicted within the temple.
This visit is a continuation of the Spanish royal family’s official program in Egypt. On Wednesday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had welcomed King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia in Cairo.
The royal couple is also scheduled to visit other prominent landmarks, including the Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple, and to meet with the Spanish archaeological mission on the West Bank.
