Phillips seeks second term on Muscatine School Board

After completing her first term on the Muscatine Community School District Board of Education, Lindsey Phillips plans to seek reelection to see several of the projects the board started through to completion.
Phillips, currently the board president, said the board is in the middle of a large bond project that will be completed over the next several months. She wants to be on the board to see the projects completed. She also said there are plenty of new curriculum adoptions.
“I think our board prioritized our own education as well,” she said. “We put in extra time with continuing education and we were able to secure board awards for that education and commitment. I think that is something every board member should be proud of.”
She also said she is proud that the board was able to assist the Pathways program in the district to offer new opportunities. She is excited to see how the JROTC program at the high school operates during its first year.
In the coming term, Phillips said every building in the district is implementing a multi-tiered approach. She believes supporting the schools with continuing education and different resources will be an important job for the board in the coming months. She also said the district will be piloting two different math curriculums.
Phillips has served as a classroom volunteer and is an active member of the PTO, previously holding the position of secretary before becoming the group’s treasurer. She has two sons in the district.
If reelected, Phillips said her goal is to support the district and make sure policies align so the district can do its work efficiently with all the resources needed.
“I think I’m in a unique spot in that people can see how I’m currently leading and how I currently follow through on my reasons for being on school board,” she said. “I’m in a good spot so people can decide based on what I’ve done. I would encourage anyone to come to a board meeting, reach out and ask questions.”
