Bohm has a .272/.319/.384 line with nine home runs and 51 RBI in 111 games this season. He also has a 94 wRC+ and a .311 BABIP this year, along with a 0.34 BB/K rate. Since returning from his first stint on the injured list on August 17, Bohm has a .243/.296/.351 line with one home run and nine RBI in 19 games. He has a 78 wRC+, a .298 BABIP, and a 0.30 BB/K rate during that stretch. Heading into the postseason, Bohm needs to get back on track, especially if the Phillies intend to have him bat cleanup in October. This season has been an up-and-down year for Bohm. The two injured list stints have also probably affected his overall numbers.
Phillies Face Corresponding Move Dilemma When Bohm is Activated
Importance Of Positional Depth In Certain Areas
The Phillies have to decide what is more important: a third catcher or extra shortstop depth. Since rosters expanded, the Phillies have had Garrett Stubbs on the major league roster as the third catcher. With that being said, Bohm has not played shortstop in a major league game. If the Phillies make a move other than optioning Stubbs, that leaves them thin at the shortstop position until Sosa returns. That is expected to happen on September 23, when he is first eligible to be activated. Keeping Stubbs would leave the Phillies with Walton or Lantigua, as well as Bryson Stott, as their main shortstop options. Weston Wilson and Otto Kemp could probably play shortstop if needed. Stubbs has played in two games in the majors this year with no plate appearances.
