Phillies announce Game 2 starter vs. Dodgers in NLDS

PHILADELPHIA — Jesús Luzardo will start Game 2 of the National League Division Series for the Phillies against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, manager Rob Thomson announced before Saturday’s Game 1.
Thomson said Ranger Suarez, who was a candidate to start Game 2, is available to pitch out of the bullpen Saturday.
Luzardo was 15-7 with a 3.92 ERA this season. He was 3-1 with a 3.21 ERA in four September starts.
“He’s just pitched so well the last month,” Thomson said of Luzardo. “He had pitched prior to Ranger during the regular season. It just made the most sense to me. We’ll have Ranger available out of the pen tonight. We’ll have (Aaron) Nola available if there’s an emergency.”
Thomson is keeping the rest of the Phillies’ pitching plans close to the vest. He said he will not announce a Game 3 starter for the best-of-five series until after Game 2. Thomson said he wants to see how the first two games unfold before making a decision.
