Philadelphia 76ers Win Tight 125-121 Game Over Charlotte Hornets

The Philadelphia 76ers looked to improve to 2-0 on the season after their stunning win on opening night against the Boston Celtics. The Charlotte Hornets were also looking to remain undefeated on the season, after taking down the Brooklyn Nets 136-117. 76ers Pull Off Another Comeback! The Philadelphia 76ers have shown an incredible amount of fight in their first two games. The Sixers outscored the Hornets 61-58 in the first half, but Charlotte came storming back in the fourth quarter. The Hornets quickly took a 10-point lead heading into the fourth, and Philadelphia would need a miraculous comeback once again. In the fourth, the 76ers outscored the Hornets by 14 points, winning the game by a final score of 125-121. I haven’t seen a Sixers team put up this amount of fight night in and night out in years. Tyrese Maxey led the team in scoring tonight, dropping 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists. What won them the game tonight wasn’t their stars, but two guys whom they tried to trade multiple times throughout the offseason. Kelly Oubre Jr provided a much-needed spark late in the game. In 37 minutes, he scored 19 points and had an 18 +/- when on the floor. Andre Drummond also made a huge impact in tonight’s game. In just 15 minutes tonight, Drummond hauled in 13 rebounds and had a 12 +/-. Both of these guys had tough seasons last year, but stepped up when the team needed them most to stay undefeated. Quentin Grimes was also a key piece off the bench tonight. Grimes had 24 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. Not to mention, he also hit the game-winning shot. It was just another great team performance, and this team looks completely different from the disastrous season in 2o24. 76ers Aren’t Reliant On Embiid Joel Embiid put together a nice performance tonight, as he continues to be on a minutes restriction. Tonight, Embiid had 20 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. He looked a lot better than he did in their win against the Boston Celtics, as he continues to get some of the rust off. In years past, if Embiid wasn’t at the top of his game, the 76ers had no chance of winning. We are starting to see this year that they don’t need Embiid to dominate, as multiple other players are capable of stepping up in the big moments. Last year, they tried to rush Embiid back because they had no chance of competing without him. Head Coach Nick Nurse has a more complete team at his disposal this year, and he is showing the rest of the league how dangerous his team can truly be. Philadelphia will be back in action on Monday night, as they take on the 1-2 Orlando Magic at home.
