Pharmaceutical Society Demands Thorough Probe, Prosecution in Viral Assault By Soldier

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) is demanding a thorough investigation and prosecution of a military officer who assaulted a Burma camp-based Pharmacy Shop attendant and a client last night. It condemned the action of the officer as “barbaric”, “reprehensible”, and “unacceptable” in a statement issued on October 30 following a visit to the pharmacy. It emphasised that the attack not only violates human rights but also constitutes a grave affront to public trust and the sanctity of healthcare spaces. The Society also deems it as an attack on public health and therefore called for transparency in the investigation, as it commended the security agencies for the swift arrest of the suspect on Thursday morning. “We implore the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to pursue this matter to its logistical conclusion, ensuring justice is served swiftly and transparently.” “We trust that the disciplinary process, thorough investigation and prosecution of the perpetrator in accordance with the laws of the Republic will be expedited to reinforce public confidence in the Armed Forces’ zero-tolerance stance towards such misconduct.” It has also committed to keenly following the matter while rallying stakeholders’ support to maintain sanctity in public health spaces across the country.
