PGA Tour Is Falling Far Behind DP World Tour in a Critical Area, Per Golf Insider

With the changing scenarios in the golfing realm, the rivalry between the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf has been significant. As the latter is a more luxurious experience for the golfers with better financial incentives, the LIV is slowly building its dominance on the PGA. Even the caddies have recently pointed out how the PGA Tour had almost zero remuneration and personal touch as compared to the LIV. Now, as the PGA Tour has been seemingly lagging behind LIV, things have gotten from bad to worse for the PGA. According to a former English golfer, the DP World Tour is also getting ahead of the PGA. Nick Dougherty recently made an appearance on an episode of ‘5 Clubs Golf’ podcast. Speaking on the current golfing scenario, the former golfer stated that this is a time when the DP World Tour is stepping up its game. Of course, the best European golfers still prioritize the PGA Tour. But as per Dougherty, things are going to change soon. Pointing out the exact parameter where the DP World Tour is making its mark, the English golfer stated, “It’s called the back nine. It’s brand new, and it’s where all those iconic events you mentioned, some of them there, whether it be the European Masters, Irish Opens, Dunhill Links, all the way through to these two we’re playing here in the playoffs. Now, these are the biggest tournaments. These are the eyeballs in the world of golf right now. This is where the attention is, not necessarily on the PJ tour, although that’s compelling, guys fighting for cards.” ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this ad Now, Dougherty also admitted that people who want to live their dream will surely prefer the PGA Tour for its essence. But for the casual fans watching, who want to perceive the sport as something fun and interesting, Dougherty thinks they will prefer the DP World Tour. And that was not all. Dougherty also proposed a possible strategy for the DP World Tour to maximize its popularity. He says the event is the best of two worlds as stars from both the DP World Tour and the LIV. Concluding his statements, the former golfer stated that since the DP World Tour is a worldwide event, the chances for its rapid expansion are massive. With markets in the UK, Australia, South Africa, and Asia booming, tapping the potential at the right moment is of utmost importance. Dougherty further stated that while the DP World Tour does not have the depth of the PGA Tour, it still carries an appeal for the people. Meanwhile, as the backlash continues to rise against the PGA Tour, a veteran golf agent accused the leadership of being biased. And the question is, ‘Is the PGA Tour biased?’. On several occasions, situations have panned out in ways that have indeed made golf enthusiasts believe that the tour has shown some biased behaviour towards big names. And recently, Mac Barnhardt, who is Lucas Glover’s agent too, has taken a direct dig on the same line. He wanted to reveal how he feels that the PGA tour only values the names that they think would be of help to them. He said, “I was friends with Jay when he was in my business. I was friends with Jay when he ran the tournament up in Boston. And had considered him a friend. But no, I don’t hear from him because I don’t have a player now of the caliber.”
