Petroleum sector teams up for fun, fitness and unity at PETFUN 2025

The 2025 edition of the Petroleum Fun Games (PETFUN) turned the Burma Camp Sports Complex in Accra into a lively arena of competition, wellness and camaraderie, as players from across the downstream petroleum sector came together for a day of sport and celebration.

Organised by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), this year’s games carried the theme “Beyond the pump: Energising wellness, unity and team spirit”—a fitting reflection of the blend of competitive action and shared industry fellowship on display.

Teams drawn from oil marketing companies (OMCs), liquefied petroleum gas marketing companies (LPGMCs), bulk import, distribution and export companies (BIDECs), regulators and other stakeholders battled it out in fiercely contested matches across multiple disciplines, from football to athletics.

Opening the event, the Board Chairman of COMAC, Gabriel Kumi, reminded participants that PETFUN was “more than just sports, but about building bridges, creating bonds and energising our collective spirit as one industry”.

The Chief Executive Officer of COMAC, Dr. Riverson Oppong, praised the energy and commitment of participating firms, highlighting the event’s growing reputation as a showcase of collaboration, healthy living and industry pride.

Adding a wellness dimension to the day, COMAC partnered with the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to provide free medical screening. Attendees benefited from vital health checks, laboratory tests, health talks and basic medication—underscoring the sector’s commitment to employee wellbeing and social responsibility.

With cheering colleagues, family members and partners creating a festival atmosphere, PETFUN 2025 once again cemented its place as more than just a sporting contest, but a celebration of unity, fitness and lifestyle within the downstream petroleum industry.
