Petrino, Arkansas staff active on recruiting trail despite interim tag

FAYETTEVILLE -- The interim tag hasn't stopped University of Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino and staff from pursuing prospects in the class of 2026 and beyond. Arkansas extended several scholarship offers to junior college prospects in the 2026 class this week. The Hogs offered a scholarship to junior college edge rusher Domata Peko Jr. on Monday. The Colorado commitment said he is planning to set up an official visit to Arkansas. Peko, 6-4 and 240 pounds, of Ventura College in Calabasas, Calif., is a sophomore who pledged to the Buffaloes in the spring. He is rated a 3-star recruit, the No. 2 edge rusher and No. 13 overall junior college prospect in the nation by 247 Sports. His father is the defensive line coach at Colorado. The elder Peko played defensive line at Michigan State and was the fourth-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006. He played 11 seasons for the Bengals before stints with the Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals. He retired from the NFL in 2020. The Razorbacks offered junior college receiver Kedrick Triplett on Wednesday. Triplett, 6-1 and 200 pounds, of Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss., also has offers from Utah, West Virginia, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Nevada and others. He is rated a 3-star recruit and the No. 3 junior college wide receiver by 247 Sports. He has 25 catches for 399 yards and 5 touchdowns in nine games this season as a redshirt freshman. He's expected to graduate in December and enroll at his new school in January. Junior college cornerback Asaad Chapman also received an offer from Arkansas on Wednesday. Chapman, a sophomore, is rated a 3-star prospect and the No. 1 junior college cornerback by 247 Sports. Chapman, 6-3 and 185 pounds, of San Bernardino Valley College in California also has offers from North Carolina, Miami, Mississippi State, West Virginia and others. Junior college defensive lineman David Chukwuemeka, 6-8 and 280 pounds, of East Los Angeles College received an offer from Arkansas on Tuesday. He has recorded 35 tackles, 4 sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, 5 pass deflections and a fumble return for a touchdown in eight games this season as a sophomore. He also has offers from Kentucky, UCLA, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Utah, West Virginia and others. The Nigerian native and his family came to the United States in 2016. He played basketball at California-Merced the past two years before giving football a try this season. Arkansas offered junior college edge rusher Darius Wiley on Thursday. Wiley, 6-7 and 255 pounds, of Hutchinson Community College in Kansas also reported offers from Boise State, West Virginia, Marshall, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Southern Miss and others. The redshirt freshman is rated a 3-star recruit and the No. 4 edge rusher in junior college by 247 Sports. The nation's No. 1 junior college edge rusher, Jalen Anderson, reported an offer from the Hogs on Thursday. Anderson said he will most likely visit Arkansas soon. Anderson, 6-3 and 241 pounds, of Pearl River Community College in Mississippi claims more than 30 offers from other schools like Florida State, Colorado, Vanderbilt, UNLV, Arizona State, West Virginia and others. He has 41 tackles, 7 sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, a recovered fumble, a pass breakup and an interception in nine games this season. The sophomore is rated a 3-star recruit and the No. 6 overall prospect by 247 Sports. Defensive tackle Danny Beale III, 6-4 and 330 pounds, of Cross County visited Arkansas for the Mississippi State game last Saturday. The former Oklahoma State pledge, a 4-star recruit by ESPN in the class of 2026, visited Fayetteville several times prior to committing to Oklahoma State in June. He reopened his recruitment on Oct. 15, about three weeks after Mike Gundy was fired as the Cowboys' head coach. Beale has recorded 34 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 5 quarterback hurries, 2 pass breakups and an interception in nine games this season.
