Peterborough Players welcome new managing director

PETERBOROUGH — A local theater company has had a recent change in leadership, the organization announced.

Tobbee Phipps was appointed managing director of the Peterborough Players, according to a news release. The Peterborough Players were founded in 1933 and perform shows in an historic, converted barn.

Phipps, a ConVal graduate with deep local roots, replaces Victoria Adams-Zischke in the role.

Marie Cassady, board of trustees president, said the board is excited to have Phipps for the theater’s next act.

“Her expertise in finance and budgeting, career in production, and being a native of Peterborough who grew up with the Players make her a perfect member of the team …,” Cassady said in the news release.

Phipps has worked in film production in Los Angeles and public television finance at WGBH, the release notes. She was also the director of business for “Frontline” and managing director of national programming finances at PBS, where she worked for series such as “American Experience,” “Antique Roadshow,” “Masterpiece” and “Nova,” according to the release.

The theater produces five shows each summer, according to the organization’s website. During the off season (from October to May), it broadcasts The Metropolitan Opera and London’s National Theatre on the big screen, the theater’s website says.
