PETA announced a surprise protest in Birmingham which aims for people to stop eating chicken. The animal rights organisation will be paying a visit to the Chicken Quarter on Thursday, October 30 with a 'bloody' message. PETA members will be carrying buckets of fake blood, intestines and guts on New Street outside Wingstop, Dave's Hot Chicken, Nando's, Popeyes and KFC . Speaking to BirminghamLive, PETA's Reuben Skeats said: "People are busy and being constantly bombarded with advertisements and other messages vying for their attention. "We hope that confronting Brummies with the 'blood and guts' of unique, sensitive individuals who were killed and chopped up into bits for the sake of a snack will cut through the noise and make them stop and think. "Whether a chicken, a cat or a human, we’re all made of flesh, blood and bones, and are the same in all the ways that matter, and we hope our action will help people make that connection and choose to leave other animals in peace by eating vegan." PETA senior campaigns manager Kate Werner added: “People would lose their lunches if they knew what happened to chickens raised and killed for their flesh. “PETA urges everyone to leave birds in peace, not pieces, and eat vegan food instead.” For anyone thinking of dropping meat from their diet, PETA now offers a free vegan starter kit of recipes. The upcoming protest marks another month where PETA has campaigned for people to stop eating chicken in the West Midlands. In September, PETA installed a billboard outside a KFC in Smethwick , urging customers to eat a vegan burger instead. PETA vice president of vegan corporate projects Dawn Carr, said: “Sparing chickens a lifetime of misery and suffering is as easy as choosing KFC’s award-winning vegan burger over its fleshy offerings. “PETA is encouraging diners to show kindness to birds and all animals by ordering delicious plant-powered options that offer all the great taste without a side order of cruelty.” The PETA Chicken Quarter demonstration will take place outside Wingstop on October 30 at 11am.
