Perplexity has been trying its best to make a mark in the industry and with the free service availability in India, the AI platform gained a lot of traction. Even after that, the is a very stark difference between the number of active users on Perplexity as compared to its arch-nemesis ChatGPT. Unable to even take on ChatGPT, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas posted something on X that says, 'The internet is too important to be left in Google's hands.' Along with that, he posted of a video of Comet browser. Daydreaming of dethroning Chrome, Perplexity CEO got a serious reality check which could be said that was pretty needed at this point of time. What Is Actually Happening Right Now? Comet browser is being floated in the industry as a smart browser that is here to outclass Chrome. But that is nothing but a far-fetched dream, that too an impractical one. Currently, Chrome has billions in terms of users as compared to a few millions of Comet browser and Perplexity combined. Now, the most intriguing part here is that Comet browser is also built in Chromium, open-source tech developed by Google and the same engine that backs Chrome (height of irony). And the same has been highlighted on X by a lot of users as well. How The Users Reacted To Perplexity CEO's Statement Online? One user on the platform shared a screenshot reding a FAQ from Comet website, suggesting that Comet is a Chromium-based browser with a caption saying, 'I rest my case, Your Honour.' Another user commented that 'Well. you are kind of standing on their proverbial shoulder too, sort of.' One thing that is clear as of now is that the users are not a fan of Comet until and we already have ChatGPT Atlas browser for increasing the competition. On a concluding note, removing Google from the top position is very tough nut to crack for Perplexity, not at least in the next couple of year or maybe more than that.
