'Perfect' road trip in North Wales has scenic stops 'with something for everyone'

A couple believe they’ve discovered the ultimate road trip through North Wales, which they insist ‘offers something for everyone’, and can be completed in just five to seven days.

Liz and Leon Diacogiannis are passionate travellers who regularly explore both the UK and international destinations, sharing their expert travel advice across their social media platforms to more than 127,000 Instagram followers. Despite maintaining conventional 9-5 careers in the UK, the pair seize every chance to travel together around the globe, with safaris being their preferred holiday style. However, the pair have also embarked on numerous road trips throughout the UK, and have now revealed one of their most favourable routes.

In a video posted on their Instagram account, Liz and Leon proceeded to share comprehensive details about their favourite UK road trip, which showcases the natural beauty and wonders of North Wales.

“It kills me that people spend their entire lives in the UK and never do this North Wales road trip,” they penned at the beginning of the video, which depicted them motoring along a road through one of Wales’ many picturesque valleys.

They continued in the video’s caption: “If you haven’t been to North Wales, you have to go!!! It’s such an amazing area to explore in the UK and perfect for a road trip! Wales is so diverse and has so much to offer for everyone.”

The couple then proceeded to showcase the route in question, commencing at the Pistyll Rhaedar waterfall, situated 16 miles west of Oswestry, and meandering through several other picturesque locations before culminating in Church Bay on the Anglesey coast.

There are six stops interspersed between the start and end of the road trip, offering something for everyone, thanks to the diverse nature of Wales.

The stops encompass the area of Llynnau Cregennen in Snowdonia, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), providing a beautiful and easy hike. The standing stones here are thought to hark back to the Bronze Age.

There are also several small ruins, including Hafoty Fach, the birthplace of 18th-century hymn writer Ioan Rhagfyr.

For the subsequent stops, you journey north through Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), where the next three spots are located. First up is Llyn Idwal, which the couple described as a ‘fairly easy [walk] for the reward’.

In this vicinity, you can also discover the Llanberis Pass, touted by them as one of the most scenic roads in the UK, as well as The Lonely Tree, positioned at the edge of Llyn Padarn and an ideal spot for paddle boarding.

Following this, you continue the drive towards the coastline to Parys Mountain, a former copper mine renowned for its stunning and colourful vistas, before driving south down the coastline to South Stack House Lighthouse on the island of Anglesey, before making your final stop at Church Bay beach.

Liz and Leon went on to suggest allocating five to seven days for this particular road trip. Whilst they acknowledged summer remains the most sought-after period for visits, they cautioned it would inevitably mean battling larger crowds.

Rather, they advocated for spring and autumn excursions, when the countryside displays its most stunning colours.

Viewers were quickly captivated by the footage of the Welsh adventure, with numerous comments expressing enthusiasm for embarking on their own motoring holiday.

“Wales looks incredible! ! So much to see,” one person said, while another wrote: “I can’t wait to visit Wales someday.”

A third person said: “I love this road trip so much.”
