UNDERPAID: "I'm a CNA at a large hospital. For 12–16 hours, I don't get a break, often working the floor alone at night as a lone PCT on my wing that's up to 35 rooms of patients. I'm hands-on with every patient's care; if something happens with them, I'm usually the first person to alert the nursing staff. I'm present to assist with codes and other alerts. I know how to set up equipment, identify issues, and read rhythms. I work on a cardiac monitor floor, so a lot of my patients are total care, meaning I'm turning, cleaning, and feeding some people as large as 600 pounds sometimes by myself. I was getting $12 an hour when I started. Now I get $15. I still can't pay my bills. I'm looking into a second job."
