This is a one-off reduction to energy bills during the winter months. Some of the most financially vulnerable pensioners, those receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, will be eligible for the discount. For some older individuals, this could mean a total of £450 in support this winter. The WHD is applied directly to bills, either as credit on accounts or as a voucher, depending on how customers pay their bills. It's up to energy companies to decide when to apply the WHD for their customers. This can occur at any point between October and March. This year, millions more households on Universal Credit and certain other benefits will be eligible for the WHD for the first time. This follows Labour's confirmation that the scheme will be extended to approximately three million additional households.
