PENNY Romania announces the official inauguration of the new logistics warehouse in Mihăilești, Giurgiu County, the first in the company’s network to operate 100% without gas heating, using solutions based on waste heat recovery and heat pumps. With an investment of 35 million euros, the warehouse has an area of 22,000 square meters and a team of approximately 200 employees, to serve 50 stores by the end of 2025 and 100 stores by 2027. “The new logistics center in Mihăilești represents a strategic step in the development of PENNY Romania. The expansion and modernization of our logistics infrastructure are essential to support the growth of the network and to respond more efficiently to customer needs. Through this project, we confirm our commitment to operational efficiency and responsible development”, said Daniel Gross, CEO of PENNY Romania. The warehouse includes dedicated areas for reception, storage and shipping, covering the entire product chain – from frozen goods and fresh meat, to standard and fresh vegetables and fruits – all managed under controlled temperature conditions. Among the main elements of the new logistics center are: Gas-free heating system, based on heat recovery from the industrial refrigeration plant and complemented by heat pumps; Photovoltaic panels with an installed power of 800 kWp, intended for own consumption; Two double charging stations for electric cars, with a total power of 88 kW; Intelligent LED lighting system with presence sensors and adaptive intensity; Integrated energy consumption monitoring through an advanced building management system (BMS). “This investment is the result of a solid collaboration between our teams and the partners involved in the project. We aimed to build a warehouse that meets high standards of efficiency, safety and sustainability, using state-of-the-art technical solutions. The fact that it is the first PENNY logistics center without gas heating demonstrates the constant concern for innovation and for reducing the impact on the environment”, added Dan Crișan, Chief Operating Officer PENNY Romania. The project was developed together with top partners: Oopy Arhitectura SRL (general designer), Eckert & Partner Beratende Ingenieure mbB (industrial refrigeration designer), CON A Operations SRL (general contractor) and Horeco Impex SRL (industrial refrigeration contractor). The Mihăilești warehouse completes the PENNY logistics infrastructure in Romania, alongside the centers in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Turda, Bacău and Filiași.
