Penn Manor field hockey gains D3-3A final with win over 14-seed Hempfield

Second-seeded Penn Manor scored three goals early and three more late to defeat 14th-seeded Hempfield, 6-2, Wednesday night in a District 3 Class 3A semifinal game. Kelby Dings and Sophie Geiter scored twice for Penn Manor, who led 3-0 and saw Hempfield cut the lead to 3-2 on goals from Talia Leber and Ally Rush. The Comets scored three times in the fourth quarter to put the game away, Penn Manor (15-2-1) advances to face Mechanicsburg Saturday at 3 p.m. at Mechanicsburg’s Memorial Park Stadium in the championship game. Hempfield (8-13) will travel to Lower Dauphin for the third-place game at a date and time to be determined.
