This week, Becs Gentry—elite runner, Peloton instructor and mom—joins us to talk about building a global community through movement and mindset. From boundary-setting around tech to the recovery tools she swears by, Becs shares how she balances performance with well-being. Below, you can watch the full episode and read highlights from our conversation, plus shop the products that support Becs’ career and life at home. A Winding Path To Success “Movement for me was escape. It was my form of getting away from, one, the toxic relationship that I was in, and two, a job that I'd sort of outgrown—with no disrespect to my former employer. For me, it was about filling my cup when I realized that running was something as a passion that elevated my life in many ways.” The All-Important Morning Ritual “Around the time when I’m brushing my teeth, I take at least two minutes to just look myself in the eye and be like, ‘You've got this.’ Or if I need an extra little bit of personal pep talk, it's two minutes to be like, ‘Alright, you're feeling a bit run down. How are you going to get through this? What are the things that you can delete from your day? What could you condense today to give yourself the moments that I need?’ ’’ Evening Tech Boundaries “My evenings are super, super important to me, and I think they're the key to maintaining my authenticity. My feet are up. I've got my Normatec [compression] boots on, and I am relaxing with my magnesium supplement or whatever is currently helping me with my training recovery process or letting me wind down before bed. My partner and I both have our phones set to sleep mode at about 8:30 p.m. We set that intention to be present together.” Lessons From Motherhood “My daughter is three, and she's a force, which is probably unsurprising. She’s taught me what it's like to have a best friend who's there all the time—this teeny tiny best friend from the time when she was a sack of potatoes. Teaching her about the world is very, very humbling, very difficult. It requires a ton of patience. When you birth a child, you [start to think] ‘Whoa, I can do anything now. I'm untouchable.’ Having Tallulah gave me the strength to do the Great World Race.” Sources Of Inspiration “I'm a big Rich Roll podcast listener, and not just for his interviewing style, which is to me really, really one of the top out there; it's very personable. His guests are also always very varied, and always have a good story. Just being able to search through his catalog, I'll often find someone that will give me a really good way to re-inspire myself. “Sounds cheesy, but my colleagues [also inspire me]. I work with over 50 of the world's best instructors at Peloton, and they're all so unique and also wonderful. When we are having those days where we feel low, where we're feeling unable to fulfill X in our role, it's my colleagues that truly understand, see where I'm at, and offer me a resolution or a suggestion.” In 2024, Gentry ran The Great World Race: seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. Mark Conlon Becs Gentry’s Tools For Success We asked Becs to share some of the items that unlock her productivity, support her journey through parenthood and keep her grounded amidst jam-packed workdays. Her Recommended Running Gear Top Accessory: “I will never go for a run without my SPIBelt, which can hold everything. I've got my phone in there for safety, but it doesn't bounce or chafe. It's adjustable for whatever your size is as well.” Go-To Headphones: “The Meta Vanguard smart glasses by Oakley. They have bone-conducting audio so nothing is in your ear, but the sound quality is unreal. You don't have to fumble into your belt to grab out your phone [and take a photo]; being completely touch free is just great.” Road-Racing Shoes: “Hoka road shoes have been fantastic—the Rocket X3s and the Mach X3s. On has got some really, really good technology in their shoes too; I’m really liking the Cloudbooms.” Recovery Footwear: “I love to still wear [supportive] sneakers when I'm recovering. The Nike Vomero 18s have been really, really awesome.” Cold-Weather Gear: “You want [to find breathable layers with] sealed zips, that are going to be water resistant and breathable—not waterproof. Brands like Gore-Tex and the North Face have brought out some really cool stuff for runners.” Her Parenting Essentials A User-Friendly Stroller: “The BOB Gear Wayfinder Jogging Stroller is unreal; [I especially love that] the adjustable handbrake is right there.” A Crib That Grows With Your Child: “The Nestig Wave 3-In-1 Convertible Crib has been [Tallulah’s] crib since she was brought home. She knows that when the lights go off, she shouldn’t stand up and try and get out.” An Analog White Noise Machine: “The Home-Medics SoundSpa Sound Machine isn’t aesthetic, but it does what it needs to do. You turn the knob up, turn the knob down.” An Old-School Creative Outlet: “[My daughter is] having a Play-Doh renaissance it and that's fantastic.” An Unexpected Savior: “Only parents will understand how satisfying the Frida Baby NoseFriday SnotSucker really is.” Got a tip?
