LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN/Gray News) – A pediatrician in Nebraska was killed when she was hit by a vehicle in a crosswalk, according to police. Lincoln police identified the victim as 42-year-old Dr. Katherine Gogela, who worked as a doctor at Lincoln Pediatric Group. On Friday afternoon, police officers were called to a crash involving a pedestrian south of O Street. Investigators found Gogela had been walking in the crosswalk when she was hit. She was taken to a hospital, where she died. Police said the driver was a 19-year-old man who is cooperating with the investigation. Officials said there was no indication of speeding or drug use. Charges have not been filed. Gogela was a pediatrician and breastfeeding medicine specialist who had been with Lincoln Pediatric Group since 2017. “Kate was an integral part of this clinic long before most of us arrived. As Dr. Mike Germer’s daughter, she started here supporting the chart room and front desk, and following her dedication through college, medical school, and residency, she fulfilled the hope we all shared: her return to this practice,” LPG said in a Facebook post. “She was a spectacular part of our group—a skilled, caring clinician, a loyal partner, a trusted friend, and a truly wonderful wife, mother, daughter and sister. Her example of dedication and care set a high standard for us all and we miss her greatly.” She was a Lincoln East 2002 graduate and attended Creighton University, where she received her Bachelors of Science. She later received her Doctorate from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She leaves behind a husband, three sons and a daughter.
