DENVER (KDVR) -- Officials have identified a person who was killed on the sidewalk after a driver allegedly hit a vehicle and a sign near 16th and Market streets, then fled the scene early Sunday morning. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the victim on Friday as 26-year-old Garrett Bimler and said the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner was an accident. The crash happened around 2:18 a.m. Sunday near 16th Street and Market Street, and the suspected driver was taken into custody about a half hour later in the 1700 block of Wazee Street. According to the probable cause statement obtained by FOX31, the suspected driver, identified as Milton Marquise III McBride, 27, was seen leaving a parking garage in the 1500 block of Market Street in a red Chevy truck, driving through the gate arm of the garage. McBride then drove towards 16th Street and allegedly hit a vehicle that attempted to swerve left. He then allegedly drove to the right and went up on the curb and struck a sign, which was pushed onto Bimler. Bimler was pronounced dead on the scene. A witness told police that they saw the driver get out of the vehicle and walk away after the crash, and identified the driver as McBride. McBride was arrested, and police found a bag with a "white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine" in his pocket. He initially refused a chemical test but was taken to the Denver Health Medical Center, where a blood draw was completed for evidence. The statement said the results were pending. The suspect had a warrant out of El Paso County as well as a suspended driver's license at the time of the crash, according to police. Police said he was placed on an "investigative hold" at the hospital. Court documents obtained by FOX31 state that he was placed on hold for a vehicular homicide investigation. FOX31 was at the scene Sunday morning and saw several police officers investigating the taped-off scene and firefighters spraying down the ground. FOX31 is working to learn more, and this article will be updated.
