Two community policing volunteers jumped into action to recover two stolen vehicles in Peachland. On a routine patrol, Gary Hedge and Ian Woodward were able to confirm the vehicles had been stolen and take appropriate action with the RCMP. Roy Morgan, the Community Safety Supervisor for the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO), believes that the community policing program is an integral instrument in helping maintain safe neighbourhoods throughout the Central Okanagan. The program is supported by the District of Peachland, District of Lake Country, City of West Kelowna, RDCO and RCMP, and provides residents the opportunity to receive training in crime prevention, traffic safety initiatives, and public education campaigns. Gary Hedge and Ian Woodward say that the program is their way of giving back and creating a safer place for all. Whether it’s spotting suspicious activity, assisting with events, or spreading awareness about safety issues, volunteers play an important role in strengthening communities. Want to make a difference in your community? If you’re passionate about your community and want to contribute to its safety and well-being, consider volunteering for one of the RDCO’s three Community Policing teams in West Kelowna, Peachland or Lake Country.
